McLEAN AND MARGESON MAKE HISTORY AT THE 2018 COBRA PUMA CHAMPIONSHIP

2018 COBRA PUMA Junior Boys and Girls Champions Shaun Margeson and Heather McLean
Shaun Margeson became the third person to win the Nova Scotia Amateur Championship and the Nova Scotia Junior Championship in the same year. Gordie Smith and Eric Banks each accomplished this in 1981 and 2011, respectively. This also represents Margeson’s third COBRA PUMA Junior title in a row. The Oakfield member carded a final of 74 to finish with a four-day total of 294. He finished two strokes ahead Chester’s, Mark Chandler who finished the championship with a total of 296. Andrew Cash from The Lake Golf Club finished third overall with a total of 306.
Mark Chandler was crowned as the COBRA PUMA Juvenile Champion, in the under 17 division.
Heather McLean officially etched her name into the history books today become the third women in NSGA to hold the title of Women’s Amateur and Junior Champion in the same year. Rita Lohnes was the first to accomplish this in 1955. She followed it up and did it again in 1957 and 1958. Her record stood for almost 50 years when in 2004 Laura Reid (Harris) captured both titles in the same year. She repeated this again in 2007. McLean won the Nova Scotia Women’s Amateur last weekend at the Truro Golf Club and added the 2018 COBRA PUMA Junior Girls Championship today at the Northumberland Links. The NSGA Junior Development Team Member fired a final round 78 to win her first ever Junior Championship with a four-day total of 316. Finishing 12 strokes behind her was Haley Baker from Ashburn who finished with total of 328. Baker who recently won the New Brunswick Championship added the COBRA PUMA Juvenile Championship to her list of wins this summer.
