It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of William “Bill” MacMillan, a cherished member of our golf family whose dedication and service enriched our association for decades. His mentorship and friendship among fellow volunteers will leave a lasting legacy for golf in Nova Scotia.
Bill was just as dedicated to the sport of golf as he was to his community, being a significant contributor to Golf Nova Scotia since 1985. Throughout his tenure, he acted as a Referee, Course Rater, National Board Member, NSGA Executive Committee Member, President (1995–1996), Vice-President, Governor with Golf Canada, as well as Chair of Golf Canada’s Handicap and Course Rating Committee.
A long-standing member at Hartlen Point Golf Club, Bill served on the Executive Committee for 21 years and was recognized with the 2019 NSGA Distinguished Service Award and the 2019 Golf Canada Volunteer of the Year.
Bill’s passion for the game, his integrity, and his lifelong commitment to fair play left a lasting impact on countless tournaments, golf clubs, and players across the province and country. Bill not only volunteered his time to Golf Nova Scotia, but he was also always ready to lend his expertise and mentor younger officials.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bill’s family and loved ones. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the lasting contributions he made to golf in Nova Scotia and beyond. May he rest in peace.
