Round One Recap from the 2018 COBRA PUMA Bantam and Junior Championship

Shaun Margeson has taken the first round lead at the 2018 COBRA PUMA Junior Championship at the Northumberland Links in Pugwash, NS. Fresh off his win at the MCT Men’s Amateur, Margeson finished today with an even par 72. The Oakfield member carded an eagle on the par 5 eleventh hole. He had birdies on the first and fifteenth holes and recorded 4 bogies including the 3 last three holes.
Abercrombie member, Evan Callaghan is in second place after finishing the first round with a two over par 74. He carded 3 birdies and 5 bogeys.
Mark Chandler from the Chester Golf Club is leading the juvenile division after carding four over par 76 and he is currently sitting third overall.
In the Bantam Boys Division there is a three-way tie for the lead. Jordan Cooper (Northumberland), Gavin Ives (Oakfield) and Thomas Sutherland (Glen Arbour) all carded rounds of 84 (+12). Tomorrow will be the final round of the Bantam Boys and Girls, with the top 10 boys advancing until in the third round of the junior. There will an additional cut to the low 60 and ties for Friday’s final round.
Heather McLean putting out on number 7
In the junior girls division Heather McLean from Ken-Wo fired a first round 78. McLean won her first Women’s Amateur Championship this past weekend at the Truro Golf Club and is setting her sights on winning the 2018 COBRA PUMA Junior Girls Championship. She is currently four strokes ahead of Haley Baker (Ashburn) and Sara Cumby (Ken-Wo). Baker and Cumby each carded a ten over par (82). Baker currently leads the juvenile division. Abby Wamboldt from Northumberland is lead the pack in the Bantam Division.
