Stuart and McKinnon lead 2019 MCT Mid-Amateur Championship

Today marked the first round of the MCT Men’s Mid Amateur Championship at Chester Golf Club. The amazing course, and equally stunning views challenged some of the provinces top male competitive golfers.
Ashburn’s Sean Stuart and Brett McKinnon share the lead after firing an impressive 68 (-2) during todays first round. Stuart carded five birdies and three bogeys while McKinnon, a graduate of Jacksonville University mens golf team, carded seven birdies and five bogeys.
One shot back, and tied for third are Paul Coulson of Truro and Craig Hollett from Grandview after carding a one-under, 69. The two are also tied for the lead in the Mid-Master divison (over 40).
Tied for fifth is Shawn Johnson of Hartlen Point Forces GC and Glenn Robinson of Ashburn Golf Club. Johnson and Robinson were both even for the day on the par 70 course.
Taking the solo lead in Division 2 is Mitch Campbell from Oakfield, after firing a steady 72 (+2) today. One stroke back is John Dobson from Dundee. In a three-way tie for third place in the second division is Steven Ward (Ken-Wo), Paul Fewer (Granite Springs) and Derek Bent (Paragon). The three carded a score of 74 (+4).
In the Division 3 there is a three-way tie for first. Robert Helmkay and Ken Ervanowitz, both from Grandview, and Joel Stronge from Amherst, lead their division after carding  a first round total of 76 (+6).
 
National Championship:
The top three competitors (including one mid-master competitor aged 40 and over) will be selected to compete in the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship. This years national championship will be held at the Summit Golf Club in Toronto, ON on August 20-23. The practice round will be held on August 21.
In addition to the three team spots, the NSGA will award an additional five (5) quota spots for 2019 Canadian Mid- Amateur Championship. These five quota spots will be allocated based on results from the 2019 MCT Men’s Mid-Amateur Championships (no age restrictions).
