Amherst N.S. – It was a perfect day for golf at Amherst Golf Club, as today marked the first round of the 2020 MCT Men’s MID-Amateur Championship.
Leading the field is Sean Stuart of Ashburn Golf Club. The 30-year-old, and two time MID Amateur Champion (2016 & 2019), carded one eagle and three birdies to finish the day 2-under-par (69).
Stuart Lenehan, also a two time Champion (2015 & 2018), sits one shot back in second place. The Grandview Golf & Country Club member completed the round with two birdies and one eagle, to finish 1-under (70).
Currently tied for third, and three shots back, are Trevor Chow of Ashburn Golf Club and Matt Vaughn of Oakfield Golf & Country Club. The pair carded a 1-over-par (72) for the day.
It is a tight race for the MID-Master Championship title. Trevor Chow leads the 40+ division, with five competitors only one-shot back, at 2-over-par (73). Currently tied for 2nd are: Aaron Nickerson (River Hills Golf & Country Club), Glenn Robinson (Oakfield Golf & Country Club), Steven Ward (Ken-Wo Golf Club), Mark Gould (Amherst Golf Club) and Don Dorey (River Hills Golf & Country Club).
Mark Gould (Ashburn Golf Club), and Don Dorey (River Hills) are currently tied for the lead of Division 2. Leading Divison 3 is Amherst Golf Club member Cliff Lowrey JR.
